Diary of a Church Planter - delivering a calf.

I am learning lots of new things in Newbury. This week, I learnt how to deliver a calf. I mentioned to Nigel Butler, a local farmer, on Sunday that I had never seen a calf being born - I am still keen to learn about West Berkshire culture. The next day he phoned to say that one of his cows was about the give birth - would I like to go. It was amazing. It was tense. It was quiet. It took an hour. It was bloody and smelly. There is something beautiful and awe-inspiring about watching a birth. I didn't realise that I would be so involved, but it takes a few people to help the cow and the calf and the vet. New birth - can be messy...nothing beats it.
