The Battle Proms at Highclere Castle, also known as Downton Abbey, was magnificent. 10,000 people gathered, marked their spot, ate their pic-nics and enjoyed wonderful music on a glorious summers evening. A spitfire circled the proms whilst the orchestra played Nimrod as the sun was setting; fireworks lit up the night sky; canons boomed to the 1812 overture; muskets and cavalry re-enacted the battle of Waterloo; the lovely Pam Rhodes kept things moving; Classic FM were there; strangers became friends; best night out in a long time.
