This week is an historic week in the LS household - the last exam of the last school day ever. After 21 years of seeing my children through school education, it has finally come to an end. As I reflect back over 21 years there are a few things I have learnt about school education and my children:
1. Be involved. Take an active interest in their work, their homework, who their teachers are, what they have been doing, who their friends are. If you begin this practise early on in their school life it becomes a normal part of family life to talk about all things school. Check the school web site, be informed, be known - speak to the class teacher and head teacher - all those involved with your child's education. Go to the school events, plays, sports fixtures, especially those your child participates in. Talk about them afterwards. Consider joining the PTA or School Governing Body - a great way to get to know other parents and teachers and be involved in the life of the school. As you get involved in your child's education and the school give feedback to teachers, governors and others involved in your child's life, remembering to say thank you - it goes a long way.
