Meeting with Michael Gove today.

I am meeting with Michael Gove today. I will be joined by a few other Surrey Heath church leaders. The purpose of the meeting is to express our concern regarding government proposals on the redefinition of marriage. Michael Gove has made no secret of his own Christian faith. He also is a supporter of gay marriage. During the recent months of conversation and debate I have found the Roman Catholic church once again to be a clear voice in the debate. The catholic bishops of England and Wales have stated: "Marriage is not just about the couple. It has always been about a life-long bond between a man and a woman because that provides the best environment for the creation and upbringing of children: it is for the common good of society. Same-sex couples in our democracy enjoy the legal right to live as they wish, but that should not result in the meaning of marriage being changed".
The re-definition of marriage, as a friend of mine says, "is not just a theological debate - it is a debate about politics, society and education. It affects everything".
