One of the highlights of the term for me is always the New Members Course. This is provided for those new to the church to explore the vision and values, teaching and practices of the church. It is also a great place to make new friends.
I am always amazed and humbled at the stories of faith and the different ways God makes Himself known to people. Each individual story is a miracle - in fact one miracle after another. From darkness to light, brokenness to healing, cold religion to vibrant faith - it is wonderful to hear.
This time round it is a special joy to have folk looking in from other nations and cultures, notably the Middle East and Asia. Their experiences of British culture and British church culture are both insightful and challenging: "the culture of appointments is very strange", said Kay from the Philippines, "in Manila we just knock on the door!"
I think I am going to learn a lot on this particular course...
