Water, water, everywhere ....

For the second time in our married life of 24 years Beverley and I experienced that awful event - a flood in our home. We returned from our short half-term break to discover soggy carpets, water stained walls and ceilings, dripping light fittings and various items wet and spoilt (including a prom dress - yikes!). Our washing machine is upstairs which makes the flood bad for upstairs and downstairs. Not good.
Not only did the water overflow but I overflowed with stress, disappointment, blame ("why did you leave the washing machine door ajar?!")and other ungodly reactions. Eventually the flow of water was stemmed, largely through a friend, John, talking me through rudimentary plumbing on the telephone.
The-morning-after the stressful night before I decided to do a Bible study of overflowing. Here is what I found:
Overflow with thanks
Overflow with grace
Overflow with praise
Overflow with compassion
Overflow with hope
Overflow in giving

...not what I was doing at the time.
Here is what I have learnt: unplug the washing machine before going away; turn off the water; regularly check the water valves and taps behind the washing machine and overflow !
