Father's Day (Part 3) A lady called Dodd

I confess - I was wrong. I thought Father's Day was some kind kind of commercial ruse to get us to spend money on things we don't need from a bank account we don't have. I was wrong.
Father's Day was actually invented by a lady called Dodd.
In 1909 Sonora Smart Dodd was in church, as usual, listening to a sermon on Mother's Day. Her mother had died some years earlier in childbirth and Sonora had watched her heart-broken father, William, bring up her and her 5 brothers single-handedly. He had washed, cleaned, cooked, worked, hardly slept, worked some more and sacrificed everything for his children.
Sonora wanted to honour her father in June - his birthday. Eventually the President of America no less, Lyndon Johnson, announced that the 3rd Sunday in June each year would be Father's Day. All because of a lady called Dodd ... and an amazing dad. 100 years ago today.
