Mark's review of Michael the Movie
Having listened to the albums Off The Wall and Thriller more times than I can remember many years ago. And having been to London to see The Jacksons, I had low expectations of Michael the movie. Who could get any near the legandary voice,
poise and power? Who could possibly get close those dance moves? Who could replicate the time-changing Thriller video?
Step up Jaffar Jackson - Michael's real life nephew. He is sensational. Voice, dance moves, gestures, power on stage. You don't just watch it you can feel it.
What is more amazing is this is Jaffar's first movie. His first job as an actor. It will not be his last.
The movie charts the rise of the Jackson Five through to Michael taking the decision to go solo, despite the ire of his father Joseph - a menacing, dark, brooding presence throughout the movie. Michael's close friendship with Bubbles the chimpanzie is a little unsettling - but that is the point, he did not have a normal childhood. He had no friends. But he was a genuis.
The stunning climax of the movie is Michael performing Bad in London. Stunning. Just stunning.
Michael Part 2 has begun. Watch out!
