Good Family habits 2 - Eating Together

This week I went round to see a friend - it turned out to be tea time. The mother was eating on the sofa, the teenage son took his to his room, the other son was up and down eating with his fingers, the dad elsewhere. What a missed opportunity, I thought. Make sure, as much as you can, that as a family you eat together. I realise this may not be possible every day with work commitments etc. but as much a possible sit down together with no TV and no phones and for 45 minutes have family time. Talk about the day, include the younger ones, ask good questions, teach table manners, nurture, nurture, nurture... One of our favourite games (which my children still ask for and enjoy) is Questions. This involves me choosing a topic and asking everyone around the table a question (age appropriate) about that topic (football, birds, a country, The Bible, insects, films...). Make the most of time together. It goes fast.
