The Power of Prayer

The Power of Prayer

God seems to be reminding me and us, as a church again, of the centrality and power of prayer. I have been exercised myself recently through reading John Piper “Hunger for God” and Todd Bentley “Journey into the Miraculous”. Both books issue a clarion call for us to pray. Piper’s book is a good study and encouragement to the neglected discipline of prayer and fasting, whilst Bentley’s book is an amazing journey through his life and ministry built, largely on extended times of prayer. The manner in which God attends his meetings and the numerous accounts of healings and miracles is truly amazing and whets the reader’s appetite for me.

As a church, we recently had the visit of Malcolm Kayes who preached on prayer, this followed, unbeknown to him, my address to the church on prayer from Colossians 1.

In response, let’s give ourselves to prayer with fresh vigour and intentionality, on our own, with others, at the church times of gathered prayer.

“Be joyful always, pray continually”. 1.Th 5:17
