Sometimes I get asked the question: What has happened to Newfrontiers? This question is asked by those in the church and also by those outside the church. I am also asked this question by those who are not part of Newfrontiers. Firstly, Newfrontiers historically, is a family of about 700 churches around the world formerly fathered and looked after by Terry Virgo. He and Wendy did an amazing job in laying apostolic foundations in churches around the world and fathering hundreds of leaders. National events like The Downs Bible Week, Stoneleigh, Newday and the Brighton Leaders Conference will go down in British charismatic church history.
3 years ago Terry felt to hand over Newfrontiers to a group of apostles around the world and in the UK. For the UK - Guy Miller, Jeremy Simpkins, Dave Holden, Mike Betts and Dave Devenish who convenes and leads the gatherings. These UK apostles (small "a" not big "A") are developing their own apostolic spheres with different names - Commission, Christ Central, New Ground, Relational Mission, and Catalyst respectively. Whilst these are appointed apostles, each with their own sphere teams, events, web site, resources etc., they are also brothers who love each other, are committed to each other, serving each other and in the same Newfrontiers Family. Commission, for example, lead by Guy Miller is part of the Newfrontiers Family. So whilst the face of Newfrontiers has changed, no longer just Terry Virgo, it has many faces (the Newfrontiers apostles). The strong family values - the Word and the Spirit, grace, worship, mission, church planting... are still shared. The relationships and family resemblance remains.
Newfrontiers is still here, alive, well and flourishing, but under different names and faces. 20,000 delegates will attend different Newfrontiers events over the summer. What has happened to Newfrontiers? - the boys have grown up.
