God and history at The Oscars

I think The Oscars this year are very interesting and very good. I think they are interesting in view of the films tipped for glory - Les Miserables and Lincoln both carry God, up front. There are not many Hollywood blockbusters like Les Mis where the central character, after an outrageous act of grace, turns to God and demonstrates similar grace to others (see below). There are not many films like Lincoln where the central character has such a sure and certain faith which propels him to dramatic (and unpopular) action - the abolition of slavery. Interesting too that the hot favourite for Best Film, Argo, is another historical piece with a religious back drop. Even The Academy it seems notices that God is still box-office.
