As the family get older ...

We had a rare experience on Monday - all the family were together for a meal. It was Bev's birthday and we celebrated by being together - altogether.
As the family get older meals together become rare. In being rare they become more precious. Food to savour and moments to savour. Time to take your time. Time to ask good questions and listen attentively knowing that this moment will pass and the next meal altogether may be weeks or months away.
We talked about coursework, jobs, money, friends, music, relationships, holidays, plans for the year, the summer, churches, what God is doing... Almost everything.
As parents we started talking about almost everything with our children when they were young and we still do.
Develop the art of conversation around the meal table. Eat together. Say grace. Talk about all kinds of things, play a game around the table. Teach them things at the meal table. Take your time. Treasure the moment, whatever their age for as the family get older ...
