Today I had breakfast with Michael Gove the Conservative MP for Surrey Heath. I wasn't the only one. Some other church leaders from the town were present too. He wanted to talk principally about the proposed new mosque in the area. It was a fascinating discussion about buildings, Planners, Council Meetings, how objections are raised and dealt with and personal feelings. Further details from: www.surreyheath.gov.uk.
Michael Gove is a fascinating man - erudite, clever, articulate, a man who listens and with a genuine desire to build community in Surrey Heath. Mostly, I have also come away from breakfast with a fresh desire to build better relationships with my Muslim neighbours so that whatever happens with the mosque I have friends who go there and that I do what Jesus said: "love your neighbour".
