Whatever happens ....

Today is the day we are due to hear from the bank as to whether we are granted a loan to proceed with the new building. Whatever the decision today one thing is certain - we will praise the Lord. The Bible is full of gritty, grisly praise - where the individuals response to their ugly situation, trauma or disaster is to praise God.
Habakkuk writes in the Old Testament:
"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior". (Hab 3:18)
Similarly, Job after hearing unbelievable bad news about his family and property declares:
"The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." (Job 1:21)
Whatever we face today may we have the courage to do the same. Though there is no money in the bank, though the wash machine has broken down, though the car wont start, the boilers packing up and I still need to get the turkey - I will rejoice in the Lord.
