Churches on the BBC
Several folk have commented to me about seeing Kingsgate Community Church, Peterborough on BBC 1. This is the church that I go to 3 times a year with 600 other church leaders for 2 days of prayer and fasting. It is a very impressive church, with great leaders, magnificent building and effective community involvement.
The programme on BBC 1 also caused a stir on BBC Radio 1 the following day. If you would like to hear what Chris Moyles said after watching the programme and to get a flavour of some of the footage click on the youtube link below ..

Extreme Makeover!
Extreme Makeover
A couple in the church are moving in July with their 4 children. They are moving to follow their dream of serving God in Cambodia. They don’t have much money and they have a house that needed a lot of work. Cue an Extreme Makeover. 35 guys attacked their house and garden and transformed it last weekend whilst the Saunders family went away for the weekend. Painting, decorating, fixing, cutting, cleaning, mowing.
Now their home looks not only great for their last month in the UK but now it is in a fit state to rent.
One lady commented whilst watching: “I have never seen anything like this. Mostly people just look after them selves and their own house – not someone else’s. I have never seen a church do anything like this”.

Newfrontiers Team Leaders
Newfrontiers Team Leaders
On Thursday of this week I travelled to Leicester for the Team Leaders (those, like me, who lead churches but who also lead Teams looking after churches in the UK) gathering for a day. After praying and worshipping in the morning we considered: Church Planting in the UK – where we should plant churches, the training and deployment of leaders, the coaching of leaders and caught up on some news. We spent some time praying for Birmingham, the Midlands and places like Sutton Coldfield.
In the afternoon we spent some time looking at the transition of Newfrontiers – our family of churches (www.newfrontiers.xtn) particularly in the light of Mark Driscoll’s comments last year at the Brighton conference regarding Terry Virgo gradually handing over leadership of the movement. This seems to be clearer for the UK but we are still working through the transition as far as the rest of the world is concerned!

The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit at large
As a church, at the moment we are experiencing an exciting visitation of the Holy Spirit. The last 2 Sundays have seen a wonderful sense of God’s presence with many individuals testifying to having real encounters with the Holy Spirit; some being baptised in the Spirit, others speaking in tongues others silently experiencing Him in a deep and personal way. Many of the Small Groups meeting in homes this week have also reported God’s Spirit powerfully present and at work.
A few have asked if I could recommend any books on the Holy Spirit –
“God’s Empowering Presence” is the title of a book by Gordon Fee. It is a big and brilliant book, which takes a look at every verse in The Bible from the apostle Paul’s writing that refers to the Holy Spirit. Even the introduction is brilliant where Fee speaks of the Holy Spirit in term of “Person, Presence and Power” (page 8).
Let’s continue to be hungry for and responsive to the Holy Spirit.
