Covid Lockdown or the Trenches?
Remembrance Sunday - is an appropriate moment to pause and remember the many who have lost their lives fighting and to remember those who have lost family members. We might be tempted to think Covid Lockdown is arduous but it is a far cry from the Lockdown in the trenches of France and Belgium during the First World War. Cold, wet, tired, hungry, sick, far from home in a long muddy trench with lice, rats (trying to catch them to eat) and overflowing latrines. A very different kind of Lockdown. Plus unrelenting tension and uncertainty. And it could be for up to 30 days at a time. 20,000 British soldiers died in the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
Covid Lockdown or the Trenches...?
