Sometimes you read the story of someone that affects you deeply. Sometimes your only response is to think... "Wow". Such is the response when we read of Susanna Wesley, wife of Samuel Wesley. You may have heard of 2 of her sons John and Charles Wesley - preachers, writers, reformers and writers of 1000s of hymns, many still sung today. Susanna had 19 children in 20 years. She home educated them. She was intelligent, well read and a woman of formidable intellect. Despite many sufferings including the deaths of 9 children and the burning down of their home and loosing everything Susanna remained strong in faith.
She lead Sunday Kitchen Services in her home, gathering up to 200 people every week to read The Bible, worship and pray. For many she is The Mother of Methodism,
Despite enduring many "calamities of life", Susanna died on 30 July 1742 with these words:
" I will die praising thee and rejoice that others can praise thee better. I shall be satisfied with thy likeness. Satisfied, Satisfied."
