Coffee in the lounge with Michael Gove today
I had coffee with Michael Gove today. I wasn't the only one. Each year Michael Gove comes to meet a small group of Surrey Heath Church Leaders. Today we met at the home of Bruce Nicole, vicar of St Michael's Church Camberley. Michael Gove has had something of a turbulent week if you have watched the news. He seemed good humoured about it. His latest proposals for education in the UK have not been met with great rejoicing. As ever, Michael was warm, affable and easy to talk you. He is very clever with a very good memory. We discussed immigration, education, FGM, prayer in schools, the important and place of the Church in British culture and society and Queens Park Rangers FC! One of the helpful things to come out of the meeting was him saying that a school assembly - "a corporate act of worship, broadly Christian in character is the law of the land."
